THE ROYAL PARADE: What to Expect When The Duchess is Expecting

In Diane von Furstenberg

Now that our darling Duchess of Cambridge has left the London hospital where she was treated for an absolutely horrid form of acute morning sickness and is now resting comfortably back at the palace, we can get down to the really pressing business of wondering with excitement what she will wear for the next nine months!
Since Buckingham Palace has stated that she will be out of the public eye at least until the new year we can ponder at leisure as to what sartorial path the expecting Duchess will take. While she has favoured structured pieces for daywear in the past, I have a feeling the down-to-earth duchess might veer towards looser separates that still keep her on trend. As for the wedges she seems to love, I am absolutely positive they will stick around for a while, possibly up to the very end when we just might see the Duchess trading in her standbys for the comfortable stability of a modern flat, maybe ballet or smoking.
Depending on what her royal duties will come to during her pregnancy, we might catch a glimpse or two of the Duchess in evening wear that I don't expect to vary greatly from what she has donned in the past. I have always found Mrs. Cambridge's evening gowns to have a floaty essence to them. Add a waistline that has been hiked up a notch to an empire level and we might just be seeing very similar looks that we have come to know and love from the future Queen of England.
In the off chance that, like many other mothers before her, she finds herself a little bewildered with how to dress the royal (and constantly expanding!) belly, she can always look to her royal contemporaries.
These 21st century princesses (and a Queen) all seemed to keep their stylish royal wits about them while pregnant with the heirs and their spares!

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark
( this lovely lady who will one day be Queen of Denmark wins our vote for pregnancy perfection!)

Crown Princess Mathilde of Belgium

Crown Princess Letizia of Spain

Crown Princess Maxima of The Netherlands

Princess Marie of Denmark

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden

Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway

Of course, what peek at maternity wear-princess style would be complete without a look at that darling, the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
She was a sweet peach, wasn't she!!
